Palm Jumeirah

The Palm Jumeirah is located on the Jumeriah beaches of Dubai. It is an artificially created island out of reclaimed land, which extends 6.5 kms into the Arabian Gulf.  It was built in the shape of a palm tree. It consists of three islands – Palm Jumeriah, Palm Jabel Ali and Palm Deira.

It was constructed at a cost of US$ 12.3 billion and was completed in the year 2009. It is considered as the world’s largest artificial island. It consists of trunks, fronds and crescent. Trunk and fronds of island are surrounded by 12 km long crescent that works as water breaker around the island.

There are residential villas, luxury hotels with all modern amenities. Kempinski Palm Jumeirah Residence, the Grandeur Residence and the Atlantis are some of the world renowned hotels located in this island. The island will eventually support 50 luxury hotels, 2,500 exclusive residential beachside villas, 2,400 shoreline apartments, two marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas and cinemas.

Residents and visitors will have access to the Island by 300-metre (990-feet) bridges from the mainland or boat to two marinas, while the main causeway will also have a monorail system. The monorail, which is the first monorail in Middle East, connects the Palm Jumeirah to the mainland. There is no driver to this train, but there are attendants to meet any emergency.

The intention behind the project is to elevate Dubai from regional players to leaders in tourism development who focus on modernising and expanding tourism infrastructure to attract more tourists. Due to its immense scale and unique shape, The Palm, Jumeirah is visible from space with the naked eye.
