Onapottan

Ona pottan is a character played by some people during Onam season in North Malabar region while going around houses to spread the message of prosperity.  Ona pottan will carry Ola kuda (Palm leaf umbrella) in one hand and a bell in the other.

Dressed in  a red colour attire and the face painted, long beard and a kireedam (crown) on his head,  he will be visiting houses on Onam days.  People welcome him with a lighted lamp and offer rice to Ona pottan. A handful of rice will be thrown back into the house by Ona pottan, which the people think, will bring goodwill and prosperity to their homes.

Ona pottan is also called Onathar and Onesheshwaran.
